We went to the Botanical Garden

One of my most recent summer adventures included taking us out to the botanical gardens. It was a bit out of the way because the gardens are in the middle of Brooklyn, but luckily, having a car helps get around at ease without feeling like sweaty popsicles in the humidity. But my timing was perfect, mostly because I had planned to visit during the park’s free admission hours that the garden offers and finding parking wasn’t as hard as I anticipated. I was mostly nervous about the parking but once there, the street cleaning rules were just about over. So, I left my parking spot with peace of mind that I wouldn’t be paying a 45-dollar parking ticket.

As I walked through the entrance, on the left of me, was the garden’s gift shop. As I quickly glanced at it, it had a few plants for sale and other gardening-like supplies, lined up outside of the shop. Although I planned to check it out before I left, I was exhausted by the end of my walk through the garden. The landscape was wide and lengthy with such an interesting variety of plant species that I wouldn’t have seen before. The first thing that greeted us was the Japanese garden and its layout design brought a feeling of peacefulness and calm, which was new and very much needed. The lake was a greenish color with multi colored koi fish grazing the surface of the water. A little description box inside the gazebo described koi fish to symbolize good fortune or good luck along with perseverance especially during adversity.

Another favorite location that I spend most of my time in, was the Cranford Rose Garden. Every corner of the rose garden was picturesque with a variety of hues popping out of the seas of green. I was in bliss but couldn’t help but imagine how much more vibrant and fuller the roses would be if this were a different time during the season when they were all in full bloom. The garden had a mix of old species of roses that were common before the 1860’s which was a unique fact. Some were small and some were large with variations of white and pink, but one color was missing from the bunch, red. Sadly, I didn’t see any and I was hoping to stumble on a big bush of them, but I found nothing. Which made me wonder in which season do they grow in because as of yet, I haven’t found any bushes with vibrant large red roses.

I had to pick my battles and after a while it became difficult to guide my toddler, while angling a camera just to catch a moment and trying to embrace my surroundings. I needed to shift my attention and really just enjoy this time with my toddler. I think she enjoyed it although probably didn’t understand what she was seeing. But it inspired me, it was beautiful, inspirational and peaceful, which is a good prescription after a stressful week or a month. Even just for a few hours to de-stress could make everything feel anew. I saw people laying on the grass and reading, some were just sitting and staring at the sights while others were aiming to capture those perfect photographs. What I believe made it more peaceful was that we went in the morning. Mornings are by far the most peaceful times of day, once you’re up, your senses are just coming into focus and that awakening can feel refreshing and enlightening. Another odd thing is that, the garden hardly echoed the loud sounds of the usual heavy traffic around the garden’s location, the middle of Brooklyn, New York. It’s as if the plants observed the sound and echoed bird sounds instead, which seems like quite a bizarre phenomenon.

Thrift Shopping Haul Try-On for Basic Casual Summer Outfits x Youtube Video

hi! how you all been?
I’ve been keeping busy… as all mothers do.

what rhythms with frugal? google? uggle? ok, is there more? lets continue this later cause I can only come up with these on the spot lol I’ve officially come to accept who I truly am. A frugalista college student new mommy who wants a semi fabulous life in the big city. Yup, deep down I’ve been ashamed for being “stuck” in a lifestyle where I have to manage everything I spend down to the last penny or else, I won’t have enough to buy quality produce at the supermarket. My priorities have changed completely compared to my early twenties and I’m now in a place where I think of the long term value versus what kind of immediate satisfaction I can get in the moment.

Its so easy to compare yourself to someone else because of the dominate use of social media, where everyone posts the highlights of their personal life rather than the mundane routines. It all starts to feel like a measuring stick to what life should look like compared to peers or to those in different age groups. Its sickening because this cycle will never stop unless your mindset changes and you’ve just got to get in a place where you no longer give a dame & stop lying to yourself. I’m learning to stop kidding myself by taking little diligent steps towards living up to my own values along with my own version of what abundance is.

Anyways, thats my rant of the day…

Can you believe I finally finished another youtube video? I was anxious to make sure that the style of the video was somewhat consistent and followed a little bit of a story so it’ll be interesting to watch from beginning to end.

This one is about my recent mini thrift store shopping haul try-on of the items for some spring and summer casual everyday wear outfits. The only thing I’m missing are shoes and those are items that I refuse to purchase at a thrift store because, well, foot fungus guys… foot f-u-n-g-u-s. lol

Thanks for reading along and I hope you will like, comment and subscribe. May you have a blessed day!

¡Hola! como todos ustedes han estado?
He estado ocupado … como todas las madres.

¿Qué ritmos con frugal? Google? uggle? ok, hay mas? vamos a continuar esto más tarde porque solo puedo pensar en esto en el momento jaja. Oficialmente he llegado a aceptar quién soy realmente.

Off-The-Shoulder Floral Romper x OOTD

This was a super casual floral romper for a casual stroll around the park in this crazy humid New York City heat. The romper has a trendy off-the-shoulder look with super cute floral motifs of red, pink, blue flowers and leaves that almost look drawn on. It was really comfortable and cute. I’ve been feeling a little anxious lately, mostly because I’ve been researching the classes I’ll need to take to go back to school for a bachelors degree. I’m really excited about the major I’m planning to go into but its going to be really tough for me because its mostly in math. I’ve spend so much time researching what would be the best and most flexible degree for me and my little family for a while now. It was really challenging because there were so many questions that I had about demand, pay scale, etc and nothing that could be answered by simply googling it.

Personally, I wish public high schools would incorporate and encourage other topics, something that’s more relevant long term, to build interest within the kids which would grow into a life skill. Instead of spending so much time on memorizing (what feels like now) useless facts or rules. I completely understand that education is important, but understanding whats valuable and what isn’t is just as important. Its just unfortunate that kids don’t get that time to really explore and question the things around them because of all the time spend on schoolwork or craming for tests… Anyways, I’m just ranting on my own personal experiences.

Perhaps you’ve had a different experience or have a different opinion about the education system, if so lets chat in the comments below! Also, what do you think about this outfit?

Thanks for checking out my blog and this post!

By focusing the entire outfit around that piece of accessory and making it the center piece, I’ll bet that you’ll instantly uplift your mood, attitude and overall confidence, why? because I’ve had those personal feelings. Sometimes it can feel daunting or overwhelming and the desire to shut down for the day becomes so much more irresistible. Wet n Wild Mega Liner Glam Kat Eyes

#MOTD inspiration!

Yesterday, Americans all across the fifty states celebrated our independence day with a lot of bbq and fireworks. Its the unofficial, official start of summer, which is awesome!

But the heat and humidity makes it unbearable to put on a full face without it literally melting off your face. For the rest of the summer, my strategy is to emphasize the eyes while being subtle and light on my skin so it’ll have enough room to breath. One easy way to create glam look is a sexy cat eye. The first step to getting it done perfectly (even if you’ve got to try a few times) is by finding a pointy tip liquid eyeliner. It will revolutionize the way the wings are applied and wear throughout the day. My personal favorite drugstore liquid liner, that is amazing for your budget and overall quality is the Wet n Wild Megaliner. The Megaliner collection has a variety of liner tips and colors to create the looks your heart desires.

The rundown of products I used for my eyes…liner11

Using the same Wet n Wild Megaliner, you can create the inner corner wings which just emphasizes the shape of your eyes beautifully. Then I used the Mega Eyeliner Pencil to trace my water line because the pencil is not as bold and looks more natural. Lastly, I applied some mascara and then curled them with my a curler so my lashes will stay up for longer. The Maybelline The Colossal Volum’Express is nice… but its not always consistent. Sometimes the mascara comes out clumpy and other times its smooth.

liner9

These are the products I used for my face. As you can see, I just focused on covering my under circles and set it with the Maybelline FIT Me! Powder so it’ll keep my face matte. By keeping the skin smooth and simple, it’ll  make the eyes pop even more.

liner7

I found these blending sponges at my local bargain store. I enjoyed how they’re all in different shapes and blend smoothly.

The Neutrogena 3-in-1 Concealer has been my go-to for everything. I found that using a flat shader brush makes the littlest drop of the concealer go a long way, which helps me save on quantitylinerliner4

Thank you so much for checking out my post! I hope this look inspires you to try it out. Whats been your favorite liquid drugstore liner? Let me know in the comments below. Have a blessed day!

Burt’s Bees Brightening Dark Spot Corrector x Review

When I purchased the Burt’s Bees Brightening Dark Spot Corrector with Daisy Extract I was sold on the promises marketed on the packaging. Its a huge goal of mine to fade out the dark spots and so called freckles on my cheeks that were caused from too much sun exposure. If you have sun damage, you know how difficult and annoying it is to apply a full face of foundation because the freckles will easily give your attempts away which sucks! Sun damage causes age spots by the UV rays, hyperpigmentation and collagen damage. For me, sun spots are tough to tackle, so this post is a review of my first impressions on this $20.00 drugstore product.

burts2

The packaging is cute with a daisy printed on the center of the box followed by a yellow, gray and red packaging color palette. The wholesomeness of its appearance shows the honesty of the company’s 100% natural and gentle ingredients (which I love). If you would search on google ways to remove sun spots, one of the options is to bleach your skin which honesty seems unnatural and more damaging long term then sun damage.

burts4

Although it took a while to see some difference on the surface of my skin, there were a few qualities of the product that I didn’t enjoy. If you’ve tried this product before, let me know about your experience in the comments below…

Personally, I hated the smell because it was a bit bitter and like sour tea. Although I didn’t expect it to have a lot of fragrance, in my mind I envisioned a subtle floral scent or nothing at all. The smell was out of left field in a strong bad way and its was the main reason why I wasn’t using it every single night and morning like the directions suggested.

burts3

During the times I did use it, the liquid would sometimes come out clear without any traces or hints of some color even after I would shake it. It was weird. But then there were times that it looked slightly brown. Then as I got close to finishing the bottle, the color of the liquid was brown… brown? whether that was normal or not, it seemed a bit odd. After seeing that, I can’t help but feel as if I didn’t get any product throughout the time that I used it especially since it was a clear liquid that smelled bad.

From afar, I can’t notice most of my dark spots except for the ones that are in ackward places on my face which sucks. My old job required me to drive a lot and most of the time I would forget to put on sunscreen so I got more damage on one side of my face then the other. To completely thank this product is hard because for most of the year it was winter and now that its summer, I’ve been putting on sunscreen even to go to the corner store.

One thing I should have done to really monitor the product performance was to take before and after pictures. Now I know for next time but weather or not I’ll be spending 20$ for another 1 oz bottle… I don’t think so.

Thank you so much for checking out my blog! Have you had a similar experience before with this product? Whats your summer beauty must haves? Let me know in the comments below and have a blessed day!

4th Of July 2016 x RECAP

2

Bless the 3 day weekends! lol My 4th of July was spend with a lot of family quality time along with great cooking, smokey bbq, some fireworks but sadly a lot of rain towards the end. Countless number of people around the neighborhood were lighting their own firework rockets. The #ootd for the nations celebration of independence was something airy & comfortable, just to feel the slight breeze that managed to travel through even with the hot sun steaming.

A funny moment that occurred during the middle of our 4th of July bbq was when we almost lost our pet rabbit.

(Found this beauty in a local thrift shop..)

Most of my family attended the bbq & when I mean everyone, I’m also talking about our house pets, Chocolate the rabbit and Dardy our Shiht Zhu. Our rabbit is a short eared, solid black, mini rabbit. She’s always kept indoors but my father decided to give her a vacation by bringing her to the grassy areas of the backyard where we were having the bbq. When we looked at her, she seemed like she was in nirvana as the the sun was shinning on her. But for her protection, we kept the top of her cage on her so they’ll be no risk of losing her.

Without realizing, the door to Chocolates cage opened because my youngest brother had fallen on top of it! No one noticed that her cage popped open and when my dad went to check up on her, she was GONE! We were frantically looking for her all over the the backyard and we were worried that she had wondered off into our neighbors yard or worst, that the local owl took her for dinner! 😱

Eventually (20 minutes later) we found her grazing the grass under the family car. Leisurely, hopping from one patch to another. We all started laughing at the coincide that  at all of times we could have lost Chocolate, imagine it being on the 4th of July of 2016!

Metallic Foil Stripe x Nails Update

Before I decided to try this design, I wasn’t aware that the stripes are called nail foil and if your looking for the ultra thin ones, just add stripe to the end of that google search. Their not expensive but before I purchased it, I decided to experiment with supplies I already had available at home. To improvise, I used aluminum foil to cut into really thin stripes and for glue, I depended on the polish to get a little dry and tacky. The tackiness made it like glue which made the foil stripes stick with only a few layers of coating. Then lastly, sealed with a clear top coat…

These are the finished results! Enjoy and let me know what you think of this design!

4 Summer 16′ Trends

And here we go, lets start our summer engines to dive into the sunny, humid days ahead for the remaining two months. Winter wasn’t as brutal as winters a la past, but it feels amazing to know that the heavy layers are now tucked away until the fall.

For summer 2016, certain summer styles and trends are really exciting and refreshing to see amongst the buzz of the streets in city that never sleeps. The following are just some highlights of those trends starting from the runway and embodied in street style, that made an effortless transition to summer from spring.

Updated Classic: T-shirt Dress

For the ultimate lazy girl at heart, this look is bliss. Not only can you find an effortless oversized, long t-shirt in almost any store (aim for two sizes larger), but with some cool accessories its an effortlessly chic daytime look.

Sleeve Details

Off the shoulder (aka cold shoulder) look, brought into focus a hidden gem to the surface through showing exposing shoulders, the neckline and occasionally maybe a bit of décolletage. But for 2016, it seems to be not enough because the emphasis is aimed at the sleeves. They’ll range from wide and voluminous pieces that vaguely reference those from the 17th century’s.

Prairie Boho

“And so, this part cowboy, part angel was born.” -Ella Alexander, GlamourMag

This look ties in elements of femininity and workmanship with high necklines, low waistlines and ditzy floral patterns. The style embodies functionality, since the original prairie women led more of an active, free spirited, outdoorsy lifestyle. As your assembling your style, beware because it can potentially fall into fancy dressing or sickly sweet butterscotch, therefore balancing is key. By adding touches of edgier accessories for a modern look.

Patches & Pins

Street style has a new accessory that adds a little fun (a bit of nostalgia) to any piece of item that needs a bit of tune up. Although you can purchase already made pieces with patches or pins attached on them, sadly it takes away most of the fun of customizing your pieces. With so many choices available, the biggest challenge will be to stick to a theme, a particular size and the sense of direction to each patch or pin.

These are just some of my personal few but there are many more floating around. Thanks so much for reading through it and let me know if any of these are your personal favorites too!

Cynthia Rowley x Summer Swimsuits

swimsuit-desire.jpg

As a little girl, one piece swimsuits were the staple to my wardrobe during the summer session. They ranged from tropical floral prints to bold salmon colors and ruffles along the waist. For the summer season, RTW Cynthia Rowley blends the functionality of a sporty wetsuit with a cute bikini bottom for the inner surfer gal in everyone. Her passion for designing the wetsuits comes from her own love of surfing. These are just a few that I picked out from her website that look so delicious! The neoprene helps maintain the shape, which is an awesome characteristic of neoprene. Rowleys buy now wetsuit capsule collection comes in ten different patterned fabrics from color blocking to florals to minimals! The effortlessness of style selections within the varying looks are killer!

Now, if I only find a Australian like beach in NYC…
