The cute coffee shop in Greenpoint, Brooklyn

Over the weekend, my family and I ventured out to another part of town in Brooklyn called Greenpoint. We went out to celebrate my in-laws anniversary and to have some quality family time. We hadn’t set aside time to catch up since I started my first semester back for my bachelors degree and since my mother-in-law works as a professor at a local college, her work schedule has been more demanding. My in-laws have been married for 27 years and were in the mood to try something different. Since they hadn’t tried Thai food, we all went to try a Thai restaurant once in Greenpoint.

As we were walking towards the restaurant after parking the car in a dark residential street, we noticed the brightly lite corner of the residential block we had just parked on. The facade was painted white, with windows wide enough to barely make out what exactly was inside. The more we peered, the sooner we realized it was a cafe, but maybe a bakery? As we walked away, we were left wondering what could be inside.

Once inside, what stood out to me the most was how beautifully delicate yet calming the layout was. The big cooling refrigerator case of macaroons were lined up with multicolored cookies and on top were cakes of different flavors. The back walls listed the menu in chalk, as well as positive messages on other walls also written in chalk. Everything available looked appetizing and minimal decor was inspirational.

I could envision myself leisurely catching up on my reading while sipping a cup of cocoa on a cold winter day, if I lived close by that is. I was mesmerized & enjoyed those extra lingering minutes just sitting on that white painted chair after we had finished our melted marshmallow chocolate dipped desert.

#OOTD x Hot Pink Ombre Nike Sneakers

This is a casual Friday street wear workout sporty outfit. The best part about it are my favorite throwback ombre hot pink and purple Nike sneakers because their so eye catching and comfortable. It instantly adds life to any occasion and emotionally, it brightens my mood!

Since my body is still bouncing back from my pregnancy, I’ve been wearing a lot of black on a day to day basis which sucks. Wearing black is very slimming but it makes you feel hotter and with the NYC humidity, your like a walking sauna which is not cool. But I won’t get tired of wearing my Straight Outta Compton t-shirt because its perfectly oversized to wear as a mini dress or tie it in the center to add more shape. I thought it be relevant to wear because of the release of the Tupac movie All Eyez On Me, which I can’t wait to go see this weekend! Even though its kind of a throwback fad to the summer of 2015 when these shirts were everywhere with the release of the movie.

I hope you’ve enjoying this dose of minimal and sporty inspo #ootd. Let me know in the comments below if you like this outfit/or the sneakers. Also, which movies have you seen in theaters lately? Are you excited to see the Tupac movie? Was he your favorite 90’s artist?

Like always, have a blessed day!

#OOTD Tumblr Pink

If you don’t know Tumblr, think of it as the teenager to Pinterests mom. Recently, I’ve been spending time on the site & building an inspirational body of images on it. The amount of themes, photographs and designs available on it will have your imagination on fire!

Tumblr pink is a concept I read about in an article posted on fashionista.com (link at the bottom of this post). It highlighted the evolution of this subdued, pastel pink hue that has transformed in our culture from its girly and ultra feminine references to it becoming ultra modern and edgy. It makes sexy appear tough, blurs the lines of masculinity and femininity because each gender can wear the color proudly. The dynamics of this color began when Pantone announced Rose Quartz and Serenity as colors of the year for 2016. This color has been used on many ads, in music videos like Hotline Bling by Drake, in tech like the rose gold iPhone and laptop. It’s encompassed a variety of industries for multiple purposes and it draws consumers when ever present. It’s the “hey, look at me” color of the moment and it seems like it’s just building up stem.

Heres my #ootd that coincides perfectly with the new blossoms popping up everywhere throughout the city,  Pared with a badass leather jacket that has a minimalistic style, draws the attention to the long pink cardigan by Boohoo.com and emphasized by the Joe Fresh oversized scarf. Added with my Sketchers sneakers, my daughter and I are ready to enjoy the cool days ahead!

#allblack Boohoo Jumpsuit

Mama’s got her body back, yass! lol

Well.. maybe not for a few more months. I’m two months postpartum and my body has been slowly getting back to my pre-pregnancy weight. I’m really excited about the progress but my real challenge is to flatten out my stomach. I’m currently editing a birth story video to post up on my Youtube channel with all kinds of details about what had happened 😱. I’m excited to share it and I’ll have the link to that video in my next blog post.

Before my pregnancy, that was one area of my body that I really struggled to maintain and to tone. My diet was horrible but since I would spend a significant amount of time in the gym, I was content with just maintaining my weight. A lot of my clothes that I had before, either don’t fit me or I just don’t feel comfortable in anymore because of my c-section pooch. I really wanted to get some inexpensive pieces for my closet that (1) were not going to break the bank (2) I could comfortably lounge in the house in (3) and confidently run errands in. I know, I kick myself in the ass sometimes cause I would talk myself out of buying something because of all my requests.

I decided to spend my time and money on Boohoo.com, I had heard a lot of positive reviews through friends and some Youtubers. I was skeptical at first but then as I skimmed through the website, I had fallen in love with the items and the prices especially! But I was disappointed at the quality when I finally got my shipment. Some of the leggings were XTRMLY thin and see through and others just didn’t flatter my new body. The fabrics for all my items are soft and stretchy and my favorite item is this black jumpsuit. Simple yet versatile and is under the “little black dress” category which means it can be mixed and matched with different accessories depending your mood.

Lust’n For Sally LaPointe Pre-Fall 2017

overview

Favorite looks from the collection

The first time Sally LaPointe was brought to my attention was when the fashion and lifestyle influencer, Daniella of @weworewhat, posted up a deliciously elegant metallic motto leather jacket on her Instagram for a little #fashioninspo. As I decided to skim through Sally LePointes Pre-Fall 2017 collection, which hits stores in June, I noticed a range of styles from simple polished silhouettes to sporty with a touch of athleisure without going over board (hello #minimalism lol). Most of her pieces have trims of fox fur from Finland, albeit, I’m pro faux fur but my goodness, does it look so luxurious as it juxtaposes the easy and comfort of a boxy silk cashmere hoodie.

It immediately answered my need and desire for items that look one of a kind with elements of luxuriousness and casualness, finding this balance could be really tricky, especially with the abundance of designers in the fashion industry. As I was reading through an interview the designer did for Fashionista.com, she describes her line as being “Powerfully feminine. Tough and elegant — again kind of that fine line thing.”

Yes, yes, yes & I couldn’t agree more. Here are some of my favorite complete looks from her collection for Pre-Fall 2017 that I’m currently lusting over. Also, some key pieces that I would love to rework with other items for a cool #ootd for a Brooklyn gal. She’s one designer who I’ll be definitely looking towards as a source of  fashion inspiration for the exciting new year ahead because of her unparalleled eye for design and I hope you will too!

Harum x Scarum Nails!

When the going gets tough, just change your route! lol

That was my philosophy as I was thinking about the different things I could do for my minimalistic style nails update. The first idea I had was a complete bust with wasted supplies and time because I originally had no inspiration. It looked awful, messy and thick. Undeniably, not runway/ instagram/ snapchat ready. But as I let my mind wonder, deep down, all I wanted was something effortless, chic and something I could look down at & fall in love with. After I was finished, I still felt very creative and added a very festive design detail on my skin (something I’ve never tried before but will be doing  a lot more in the future).

The idea was to be intentionally messy, sort of like a work of art.

Hope you all enjoy & let me know what you think in the comments below!

Prego Skeletal Halloween x Withdrawals

The best part about Halloween is the drama that bubbles up through the creativity and energy of those ready to recreate something that was once memorable and sometimes a bit ironic. the drama that you anticipate. October has a bit of bewilderment, something  that the rest of the 11 months lack.

Well seeing how I’m only going to have this pregnant-halloween experience once or atleast not for a long time after (unless 10 years down the line fate interferes lol you know what I mean ladies) I wanted to make the best of it by dress up! I made it myself or rather customized it myself. I already had a bunch of school items laying around and needed a clever reason to put them into good use. I paired a solid black, steve-jobey, Zara turtle neck knit shirt with some Walmart pregnancy leggings (that are serious lifesavers!). Then drew out the shape of the rib cage and the skeletal fetus. Added some fabric glue and some white thread, then I was done. An awesome, inexpensive Halloween costume inspired by Pinterest! lol

Chunky Platforms

IMG_9503

For the longest time I’ve wanted a pair of platform booties! I had searched countless places and sites to find the right fit, the right size platform and the right texture. A timeless investment that’ll add to other pieces in my closet and tie some of the looks together. It comes with a bold silver zipper in the back of the ankle so the front view is clean and minimal. I kept the rest of the look minimal so the emphasis and focus would go directly to the new shoes. A baggy sweater for those rainy days, and lets be honest, the baggier the better lol.
