To care or not to care

How much are you supposed to care?

A new mantra I’ve adopted says “it doesn’t matter how much you know, but rather how much you care”. I heard this earlier this year, but it had not been proven true to me until the middle of my most recent school semester. The spring semester was one of the toughest, most stressful, and agonizing school terms as of yet. I took more classes than any other semester, some online and in-class, all while my daughter was entering the “terrible two’s.”

In a few of my classes, I was required to work with partners and for one class in particular, I decided to partner with a student, who I believed was a top student. He had the best grades in class, understood the material and could practically re-teach the whole lecture.

We partnered up for three projects and before we started, he stated how much he did not care about the work we were about to do. He wasn’t interested and who could blame him, but for me, it was different. I did care and was genuinely interested in what we were working on. I didn’t just care about getting a good grade, but was curious about the process and getting a “preview” of something I might be asked to do some day during my career, possibly. Plus, I was taking away valuable time from my family to finish these assignments, no matter how mediocre, I needed a return in my investment and my time. I was going to use the assignment as a trial to build my confidence in myself and learn more about my capabilities. It was a difference of opinions and as long as the work was completed, that’s all we focused on.

We worked well, for the most part but not without some hick ups, naturally. He seemed to have a tough time staying focused since other students would ask for his help and other personal problems. Most of the assignments were rushed to get finished on the last day, but luckily, we both worked fast and efficiently. Once all the work was handed in, we agreed that we had challenged one another in ways we didn’t expect. We had different capabilities and I got to know which areas I was weaker in. Working with someone who approached the problem differently was an interesting learning experience. I was able to see a different side of myself that otherwise might not have been noticed. Through this partnership, I learned that staying humble and patient is the best remedy to staying motivated enough to finish the work together.

What can I say? I was in a writing funk and I felt like something needed to change in order to get the motivation to keep creating content. I’m feeling a lot more organized especially after taking the step to purchase my own domain and customize my whole site to something that would get me inspired to keep going. I started my blog a few years ago with the intention of making interesting content and growing it into something amazing. I learned some valuable lessons through the process of creating but no where near did I get close to the goals I had set for myself. I became upset because I had fallen short and was being dishonest with myself.

Once the summer started I wanted to take that time to reevaluate some life priorities and put things into perspective for myself and family. Now that the new fall season is upon us, I feel centered and focused. I feel like its important for me to constantly stay self aware to admit when I start going astray from where I intended to go and take the time to re-address my direction.

At-Home-Workout Products x New Year New Me LOL

So…now thats its the second week of February, have you kept up with your 2018 fitness goals?

Me?… my overall body weight is finally lingering at around my pre-pregnancy weight and I couldn’t even express to you how nervous yet excited I am for it!

Nervous because once I notice that I’m following through with my fitness goals by losing a lost pound or so, simply knowing that there is some progress, that’s when my mind will automatically start to activate my reward senses or triggers or what ever they’re commonly referred to. My mind is like “ok, lets starting indulging on donuts, lets make a cake to eat every morning to compliment the bitterness of my morning coffee, lets have more fast food” its like a mental fight! Its terrifying because once I start to indulge in these “rewards” thats when the pounds start to add up fast. Then it becomes this self defeating and hurtful monster cycle that feels never ending and my self esteem takes the hit again and again. The nail in the coffin is when I’m checking myself out with a cute new outfit and it doesn’t look good because of my weird post baby belly situation going on and popping out like I’m 4 months pregnant.

I’ve been aiming to go to the gym consistently or at least the total number of times equal to the amount I pay for my month membership (so it’ll make that fee completely worth it and not a waste of money). But another habit I’m aiming to turn into a daily routine, is to do a daily workout, even if its a short one, in my living room. Its not that I don’t have the time or space to do some moves to tighten up my overall physique, but I just don’t get motivated and I simply don’t associate my apartment with heavy duty training sessions and I justify that thought by having a gym membership.

Sooo, to get excited about training at home, here are a few items that’ll make it more enjoyable on a daily basis:

Booty Bands: from the countless of fitness enthusiast instagram pages I’ve checked out, at one point or another they’ve used a band to help grow thy booties. So when I saw this one in target, I was like I too shall grow thy booty

Scunci Everyday & Active Hair Elastics: what sold me was the “Best Hair Elastic Fitness Beauty Award Winner” slapped right on the center of the packaging. I’m a sucker for hair bands! Plus, I’ve been in desperate need of a new pack since I had already lost all them. Let me know in the comments below if this happens to you also lol

fitness-5

Waist Trainer: this one I purchases isn’t really a waist trainer for fitness, but more of a corset. I’m planning to use this during my cardio sessions to help sweat out fat. This item is so controversial because some swear by it yet doctors claim it does nothing to contribute to any core strength. I’m willing to give it a try, but not at a hefty price tag. This one I got from eBay for no more then twenty bucks!

Leggings: One is from Old Navy, Victoria Secret Pink, and two from Forever 21. They’re all in small because their super stretchy.

The only items that I haven’t purchased yet are a couple of cute new sneakers. I’ve beat up the current few that I have so I’m dying to get a couple of cute new ones to compliment my new set of goals lol

Anyways, thanks for reading along and let me know what you think of these items or if I should add some additional items to my current fitness products. I already have a few mats in different colors and some light weight dumbbells, but who knows, I just hope I stay committed to actually use everything!

Lazy Girl Hairstyles

Nothings more special to the busiest person in the world then when that person can look rockin’ and banging without having to spend hours in front of a mirror. Every since giving birth to my baby girl, I’ve been lacking sleep, time and sometimes even motivation. Losing sleep is nothing major since college all nighters was as common as finding McDonalds in seemingly every corner. I know how to create the time, but whats really bothersome is the lack of motivation and that stings more then rubbing salt on a wound. Its definitely not depression or any other mental health issue, its just plain’ol laziness and I hope you can relate to this feeling too!

One action thats been helping me fight off my laziness and that shifts my mindset to become more positive to power through the days (since the fourth trimester feels as real as the belly bump during pregnancy) with my newborn. It involves me doing my hair and since I’m breastfeeding constantly, its essential for me to keep my hair up to avoid it from getting on my daughters face.

Here are three of my favorite go to hairstyles that are quick and easy. All you’ll really need is some hair ties and some hair pins if you feel inspired to recreate these styles during the day for a casual look. To help tame any flyaways or uncontrollable strands, water is your best friend if you finding yourself in a “no-hairspray-available-atm-situation” and if your on the go, that situation is wayyyy to common!
